Courtesy Pay Has Changed. In November 2009, the Federal Reserve finalized changes to Regulation E, which implements the Electronic Funds Transfer Act. These new Federal regulations will require that all members notify us if they wish to receive the benefits of Courtesy Pay on one-time debit card transactions.
Why Should I Opt In? By opting in, you authorize Charleston Area Federal Credit Union to cover your everyday debit card transactions when you do not have enough money in your account. For those times when life doesn't go according to plan, this service may help prevent the embarrassment of a declined every day debit card transaction. The only time you pay a fee for this service is when you use this service - giving you greater flexibility in managing your money.
What You Need To Know About Overdraft And Overdraft Fees: If you are taking part in the program, your debit card transactions, ACH and share drafts (limited to a maximum of $500.00 negative balance) may be paid and not returned for insufficient funds. There is a $28.00 fee per transaction which is the same cost to you if the item is returned as an NSF. With Courtesy Pay, you won’t suffer the embarrassment and fees associated with a returned check or a declined purchase at the checkout counter.
Examples Of Why Courtesy Pay Is Just Another Outstanding Service We Offer:
- You have $300 in your checking account and you are out of town. Your car breaks down and you need to pay $400 to get your car back. Your debit card is the only thing you have with you. Would you want your debit card to clear?
- You think you have $1000 in your checking but your direct deposit was delayed because of an error by your employer leaving your balance at $150. Would you want your $200 debit card transaction for groceries to clear? If you have not opted in, we would have to decline your transaction.
