Charleston Area Federal Credit Union’s credit card program is on the Dean’s List for receiving a 5-star rating from Credit Card Connection for our fair and ethical credit card lending practices. The site’s founder, Ondine Irving, has appeared on CNN’s Larry King Live and MSNBC’s Suze Orman Show educating consumers that there are still credit card companies out there who demonstrate they value their members with their operating practices.
Here are the criteria considered fair and ethical across the industry and how we compare to these standards:
-
Rates cannot exceed 18% APR. Our rate for all members has been 12.90% APR* for over ten years.
-
No balance transfer fees. We do not currently charge any balance transfer fees.
-
No penalty rate. If you are late with a payment, we do not penalize you with a rate increase.
-
Late fees at or less than $25.00. Our late fee is $15.00 and we also provide you with a 10 day grace period before this takes place.
-
No annual fee. We do not believe you should have to pay an annual fee simply for carrying our credit card.
If your credit card company recently cut your credit limit, increased your interest rate or started charging you an annual fee, you have a better option right here at your credit union. We pride ourselves on providing you with consistent service for your credit card needs and plan to continue with this practice now and in the future.

*APR is Annual Percentage Rate
